Where is Wyatt Earp’s second “wife,” Mattie Blaylock, buried?

Where is Wyatt Earp’s second “wife,” Mattie Blaylock, buried?

John Crawley

Salem, Oregon

Mattie’s body lies in the historic Pinal City Cemetery near the town of Superior, Arizona, a few miles east of Apache Junction (see map below). Her grave is the first one on the right at the 8x8 upright post. A plaque should designate her grave, but people sometimes steal it to take home as a souvenir.

If you’re interested in Old West grave sites, you should purchase Violence Was No Stranger by the late James Browning (Barbed Wire Press). The book offers photographs of most of the well-known characters, and a few of the lesser renown ones, as well as directions to the grave sites. The 1993 book is out of print and a little hard to find, but the book is well worth the effort and expense.
